Did you know that famous Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci, had a hand impairment? A CNN article suggests that Leonardo sustained traumatic nerve damage to his right hand that interfered with his skills later in life. This new study discusses the analysis of his drawings over the years and reveals news regarding his health. After analyzing one of his drawings, researchers believe that Leonardo had acute trauma and nerve damage to his right arm that resulted in ulnar palsy, caused by a stroke. Researchers think that this palsy of his right hand caused a weakness to one side of his body and affected him as an artist. The article says, “Other researchers also suggest Dupuytren’s disease, in which tissue under the hand’s skin thickens and tightens.”
